Hidden Falls
There are literally thousands of places like this in the islands. Every valley may have a stream after it rains. Every stream will have any number of waterfalls as the water makes its way down the rugged, deeply fluted valleys. I love to hike and often the easiest path is to follow a stream. Very often while crawling through dense overhanging trees, you will suddenly come upon the sight of a beautiful waterfall like this one. Sometimes there will be a little pool deep enough to swim in and cool off. You may have heard it said that if you get lost in the woods, find a stream and follow the water which always flows downhill and toward the sea. You'd best forget this advice in Hawaii because, although the water does always flow downhill, it often switches back and forth as it zigzags down toward the sea. You could hike for hours and be only a couple of miles from where you started. When it rains heavily though, a stream bed is not a good place to be, as flash flooding can occur with little or no warning. This day held no such threat however, but rather a pleasant promise of cool fun.
