Raphis Palm
By Hawaii Artist Darrell Grindstaff
Raphis palms have a natural fiber sheath that looks a lot like burlap fabric; the fibers grow in two different directions and appear, at first glance, to be woven. The fiberous sheath encloses the main stalks. Moreover, a plant will have more of these fiber-wrapped bundles within other bundles. I am always amazed and fascinated by GodŐs inventions.
